Regional Topographical Conditions

Bukittinggi Town is situated between 100 o 20 – 100o 25 East Longitude and 00o 16-00o 20 o South Latitude with a height of around 780 – 950 meters from the sea level. The area is around 25,239 km2, and accounts for 0,06 % of the territory of West Sumatera Province and has a population of 102,228 in 2006.

Bukittinggi Town is made up of three (3) Sub-Districts and twenty four (24) Villages, with an area of 12,156 Km2. The states (known as nagari-nagari) bordering the Bukittinggi area are all under Agam Regency government.

The natural conditions of Bukittinggi Town is made up of hills and valleys and the soil is fertile. Bukittinggi which is famous as the tourism development center within the West Sumatera Province, has a beautiful panorama and is dubbed Bukittinggi – The Tourist City which was proclaimed by the then Governor of West Sumatera, Ir Azwar Anas on 11 March 1984. The most famous valley is Ngarai sianok situated at the west side of Bukittinggi Town with the depth of 100 m and has long been a tourists power of attraction, in addition to Jam Gadang (Great Clock) built by Controller Rook Maker in the year 1926 with a background of three mountains.

The Bukitting Town area is surrounded by Agam Sub-district with the following borders :

- North : Nagari gadut and Sub-district Kapau Tilatang kamang

- South : Nagari Taluak of Banu hampu sungai Puar Sub-district

- West : Nagari Sianok, Tabek Saroyo, guguak, Koto Gadang, sub-district IV Koto

- East : Nagari Ampang Gadang, sub-district IV Angkat Canduang.

Climate and Geographical Conditions

In general rainfall rate in this town is quite high, averagely 2,381 millimeter per annum with an average rainfall of 193 days per year and the humidity is around a minimum of 82,0 % and maximum of 90,8 %. The town therefore has a medium climate, cool weather with an air temperature of 17-24 0 C.
